Structural Design Activity

Design and create a bridge in West Point Bridge Designer — a truss bridge carrying a two-lane highway across a riverbed. Apply engineering design, materials science, and statics under budget.

The biggest lesson: even a small change can lead to success. My initial 160mm rods passed the test but broke budget. A uniform 130mm design was under budget but failed. Mixing rod diameters across the bridge made it strong AND within the $400,000 budget.

We had to skip the deeper research portion due to schedule conflicts, so I was almost guessing designs early on. After some outside research I found a design that worked.
